Postpartum recovery conversations tend to center on the pelvic floor — and for good reason, since that’s where some of the strongest evidence sits. But it’s not the only thing changing in your body after delivery, and treating it as the whole picture can mean other recovery needs get missed.
The Pelvic Floor Piece, Backed by Real Evidence
The HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology behind the pelvic floor chair has a genuinely strong evidence base for stress urinary incontinence — a common postpartum symptom. A randomized controlled trial comparing HIFEM combined with pelvic floor muscle training against muscle training alone found the combined group showed significantly better results on both electromyography measurements and validated clinical questionnaires. A separate study following 19 women through six sessions found improvement across multiple validated incontinence questionnaires, plus objective urodynamic changes still present at 6-month follow-up — the kind of finding that pairs patient-reported improvement with measurable physiological change, which strengthens confidence the effect is real.
The honest caveat: most individual trials in this area are still small, and researchers in the field are explicit that larger, more standardized studies are needed to firmly settle the size of the effect — real and mostly positive evidence, but not yet a fully mature research base.
What Else Postpartum Recovery Often Needs
Pregnancy and delivery change more than pelvic floor function — posture shifts, core strength changes, and general mobility and tightness are common in the months after. That’s why postpartum care at Maana Wellness isn’t limited to a single treatment: physio-led stretching and broader physiotherapist assessment are available alongside pelvic floor therapy, so a plan can be built around what you’re actually experiencing rather than assuming the pelvic floor is the only issue.
Where This Fits at Maana Wellness
Our Women’s Wellness program includes pelvic floor therapy as a core component, built around an individual physiotherapist assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all postpartum protocol.
